In a study, participants read false information about COVID-19, then some received a correction (with or without an explanation) to test if the initial false information still influenced their reasoning.
The results showed that many participants still relied on the false information, especially if the correction lacked an alternative explanation.
Misinformation can continue to influence us, even after it’s corrected, which highlights the importance of giving clear alternative explanations.
