Status Quo Bias

In the context of patient care, healthcare providers may prefer treatments they are familiar with over more effective alternatives due to:

  • Engrained habits
  • Fear of uncertainty
  • The desire to avoid change-related risks.

Status quo bias is when people stick with what they know, even when trying something new could lead to better outcomes.
