Encourage safe behaviours on buses

The challenge

Encourage adolescents to buckle seatbelts on school buses.

Our response

Nudges were introduced to encourage adolescents to fasten seat belts and raise awareness of potential road dangers:

- A large sleeve was added around the seat belt making it more salient. Sitting on the seatbelt became uncomfortable due to the design of the sleeve;

- Posters with impactful messages were sticked to bus windows;

- Seat covers representing crash test dummies made the safety benefits of the seat belt more salient;

- Floor stickers reminded adolescents of the seat belt installation steps along with a voice message triggered by the driver at departure.

The results

Seatbelt wearing rate increased from 10% to 24%.
